RingExtruder
What is a RingExtruder?
Recognizing industry's need for improved extrusion technology, Century 3+ is achieving for some what once was considered impossible with twin screw extruders and improving the bottom line for others. The Century 3+ RingExtruder is uniquely designed and setting the new industry standard by producing material better, faster and cheaper.

The RingExtruder is designed for more elongational mixing vs. shear mixing for more efficient compounding. Twelve co-rotating, fully intermeshing, self-wiping screws rotate around their own axes and do not rotate around the stationary core. |
With twelve times the number of axial flow regions compared to today's typical twin-screw extruder, melt flow elongation is important to the RingExtruder's demonstrated dispersive mixing. Distributive mixing is provided by continuous flow splitting over more screws and is further enhanced with special mixing elements. The RingExtruder has demonstrated distributive mixing far superior to its twin-screw predecessor.
Several aspects of the RingExtruder design enable very efficient devolatilization and reactive extrusion. A circular ring of screws allow both sides of the elements within a RingExtruder to be wiped simultaneously. Smaller channels for a given throughput result in thinner material thicknesses and shorter diffusion paths for volatiles and reactants. A much larger free volume for a given screw diameter offers much longer residence times.
