Materials Research

Century 3+ teams with partners to develop new products and improve existing ones with the more effective mixing, devolatilization, and reaction capabilities of the RingExtruder. Improved physical and material properties along with improved processing are first observed at Century along with higher throughputs and reduced energy consumption. Property improvements are later quantified at the customer and often permit formulation cost reductions through more efficient use of expensive components.

For example, the complete dispersion and random orientation of fibers within a highly filled ceramic formulation shown in the SEM image at right and the resulting property improvement was made possible with a RingExtruder at continuous rates never before possible. Improved binder dispersion allowed the concentration of this costly binder and the total raw material cost to be decreased.

Century 3+ invites potential partners to (1) engage our process team to improve their products and develop new ones and (2) decrease their manufacturing costs with the innovative processing of the RingExtruder. We welcome the challenge and opportunity to demonstrate its capabilities.
